Nerve Treatment
Pulpotomies/Pulpectomies (Nerve Treatment)
On occasion, cavities progress into the nerve. Fortunately, there are alternatives to extractions. Depending on the situation a pulpotomy or a pulpectomy will be recommended. Both use a medicament (medicine) to help the tooth heal and prolong the lifespan of the tooth (ideally until the tooth is ready to fall out on its own).
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is performed on adult/permanent teeth as an alternative to extraction of a tooth. The goal is of this treatment is to alleviate pain and restore oral health. During this procedure, the nerve of the tooth is removed, the tooth is then disinfected, and a material is used to seal the root canal system to prevent a recurring infection.
